FACT: How Common is a Medical Misdiagnosis?

According to a study undertaken by the Mayo Clinic (2017) in the USA, it was found that 21% (1 out of 5) of serious cases were diagnosed incorrectly.

A wrong diagnosis and incorrect treatment can set a patient on the wrong path and lower the chances of recovery. Getting a second opinion from an experienced specialist at a leading hospital can help to reduce this chance.

Who needs a second opinion?

When it comes to your health and treatment, ensuring you are getting the right treatment can mean everything. Getting a second opinion from a specialist in the same field assists in giving certainty that the advice from the first specialist is correct. But who may need a second opinion?

  • If you have been diagnosed with a serious condition and would like to confirm the diagnosis.

  • If you have been told to undergo surgery and would like to know if that is the best option or if there may be alternatives.

  • If you have been told to undergo serious medical treatment and would like to know if that is the right treatment or what other treatment options may be recommended.

Why Have A Second Opinion At Bumrungrad International Hospital?

Confirm If Your Diagnosis Is Correct

  • Protect yourself against a misdiagnosis, that may lead you to get the wrong treatment.

  • You cannot get the right treatment if your doctor has not accurately confirmed your condition.

  • You may be waiting for your local doctor to tell you what condition you are suffering from or what your treatment plan should be.

  • A second opinion can get you answers fast, and let you move forward with treatment quicker.

Confirm If Your Treatment Plan Is Right For You

  • Confirm the treatment plan proposed by your local doctor is right for you before starting treatment.

  • A second opinion may recommend treatments that may eliminate the need for unnecessary invasive procedures or surgery.

  • Gives you an opportunity to confirm you are on the right treatment if your health is not improving or if you are experiencing unexplained side effects.

  • If your diagnosis or treatment plan offered by your local doctors is not definitive, get a Second Opinion.

Confirm If Other Treatment Options Are Available & Suitable

  • There can be more than one “right” treatment for certain conditions and those suffering from complex medical cases. It is best to ensure that your treatment plan is optimal for you.

  • It gives you an opportunity to be informed of different perspectives and various treatment options available that may be limited in your country.

  • There are new medical treatments being offered each year and different approaches being offered based on the technology available. Get a Second Opinion from a leading hospital today to see if there may be other treatment options for your condition.
