Prevention is always better than cure. Here are some ways that you can reduce the risk of ENT disorders:

For Ears:

  • Identify and treat allergies
  • Wear ear plugs or swimming caps when swimming
  • Keep your child’s immunizations up to date
  • Avoid exposure to cigarette smoke
  • Do not remove earwax unless your physician tells you to

For the Nose:

  • Treat all allergies before they become sinus infections
  • Avoid flying if you have a cold but if you must, try to keep your nasal passages from being blocked by using a nasal spray or a decongestant 30 minutes before take-off
  • For chronic sinusitis, try using a saline nasal spray daily in case of an inflammation and irritation of the sinuses

For the Throat:

  • Avoid drinking and smoking
  • Identify and treat tonsillitis, nasal polyps or other disorders that can cause airway obstruction.
  • Exercise regularly
