  • Surgery: This is done to remove cancer tumour which can be followed by other treatments like chemotherapy. Some types of surgeries include thyroidectomy, lymph node removal.

  • Chemotherapy: It involves using anti-cancer medication to kill cancer cells and prevent their spread.

  • Radiotherapy: Use of high-energy radiation beams to destroy cancer cells and prevent them from spreading further.

  • Targeted therapy: This is a special type of chemotherapy that involves using drugs to target cancer cells and destroy them without causing harm to normal healthy cells.

  • Brachytherapy: This is a type of radiation therapy that involves administering high doses of radiation with needle directly into the tumour thereby causing fewer side effects as compared to conventional radiotherapy.

 Procedures and Tests

  • Genetic testing: This simply refers to testing for genes that increase the risk of getting cancer.

  • Vacuum assisted excision biopsy: This minimally invasive procedure involves connecting a hollow probe to a vacuum powered instrument and sucking out a fibroadenoma. It is carried out when the patient is under anaesthesia.

  • Cryoablation: This involves destroying a fibroadenoma by freezing. A needle known as a cryoprobe is inserted into the skin and into the cancerous tumour and pumping cold gas so as to freeze the tissue after which the tissue is allowed to change into change state.

  • Radiofrequency ablation: Unlike in cryoablation, this procedure uses high-frequency energy to destroy a fibroadenoma using magnetic resonance imaging or an ultrasound to focus the energy beam to the fibroadenoma without causing harm to the surrounding tissues.
